Uniform at Hinchley Wood School

Our pupils are expected to be smart and appropriately dressed for a place of work and study. Wearing uniform is intended to develop our pupils’ sense of loyalty to the Hinchley Wood School community of which they are members, to create a sense of equality for all who wear it, to help establish the correct mind-set for learning and to encourage a pride in a smart, professional appearance.

We believe that the wearing of a smart uniform helps to separate home life from school life as well as removing pressure or opportunity to be ‘left out’ because of fashion trends or affordability of the latest items. Whilst wearing the Hinchley Wood School uniform, students represent the school and in turn, the school represents a professional environment based on shared collective values.

We want all pupils to express who they are by the way that they treat other people, the talents that they have and the efforts that they put into their schoolwork and social interactions rather than the way they dress

At Hinchley Wood School we are proud of our uniform and we work hard to maintain high standards of dress. We rely on the support of parents/carers in upholding these high standards.

School expectations

Pupils are expected to wear full, correct uniform at school and on the way to and from school. Uniform will be checked upon arrival at school and throughout the school day. The school operates a points system where incorrect uniform will result in the student receiving a uniform point. If a student receives three uniform points, they will be required to attend an after-school detention and parents/carers will be notified. Further non-compliance will result in an escalation of sanctions as necessary.

Uniform guidelines

We have amended our uniform guidelines in line with recent government guidance on the affordability of school uniforms and have minimised the requirement for branded items. On our uniform list, we have clearly indicated where items do not require a logo and can be bought from generic uniform retailers. We encourage the selling and buying of pre-loved items through the school (by contacting the school office) and via our dedicated pre-loved uniform Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1790832077608700. We will always seek to support pupils and families who are struggling to meet the cost of uniform.
