Kevin Costner once said, “If you build it, they will come” and on Saturday 20th June, HWS & HWPS proved this was possible with their first joint Summer Fair.
In excess of 2,000 people attended what became the biggest event ever hosted by the schools and everyone who attended enjoyed a fun-packed afternoon. With over 50 stalls and attractions, there was something for everyone. Entertainment on the canopy stage featured throughout, alongside craft stalls, food wagons, a BBQ, and well-stocked bar. There was even the opportunity to watch musical performances while enjoying an afternoon cream tea.
“Sponge the Teacher” proved a massive favourite, with even CEO Ben Bartlett taking his turn at being sponged! Old favourites such as the coconut shy, high striker, hook-a-duck, and welly wanging took visitors back in time, while bouncy castles and inflatable fun kept our younger guests entertained. The famous Dog Show caused much hilarity with a fancy dress section and we are delighted to report that the weather was ideal thus keeping both dogs and humans at a perfect temperature.
Although this event undoubtedly raised very welcome funds for both schools, the main purpose was to bring the community together for an afternoon of fun, enjoyment, and a shared experience. Everyone was catered for, with ear defenders available at the entrance and a quiet area provided for those who needed a break from the hustle and bustle.
